Go read this really excellent post about abortion at Feministe.
This is a good summation of why abortion should be legal, and why it's so easy for middle class folks to not understand why there is an important difference between a clause in anti-abortion laws dealing with the "life" of the "mother" and the "health" of the "mother." Seriously. Go read it now.

10 Year-Olds Are Just Asking for It

A judge sentenced a man who raped a ten-year-old to a very lenient (18-month and 2-years, concurrently) sentence, because she asked for it, apparently, by dressing provacatively. Those 10 year old sluts.

(I had a very long, poetic, and vitriolic entry toucching on the media, woman as public property, the conflation of sex and childhood and how that related to the forced submission of women, and the horrors of a system that allowed crazy motherfuckers who don't care about child rapists to be in charge, but it was sadly deleted and I am spent, spent I tell you! and am unable to rewrite my anger. Stay tuned for more righteous anger soon, though.)

Hollaback

How have I never seen this website before? http://hollabacknyc.blogspot.com/

It's a place for people who have been harrassed to post pictures of their harrassers, or at least to write about them. So, so depressing, but sometimes there are some awesome, uplifting stories by the people who post there.

Rape does not equal Sex!

A judge in Nebraska has banned the word "rape" in a "rape" "trial." Seriously. Also, from Slate, the words "rape, sexual assault, victim, assailant, and sexual assault kit." So, I guess when the victim cannot say "I was raped." She has to say "someone had sex with me." When will the world learn that RAPE and SEX are not the same fucking thing!

This makes me so angry, because the conflation of the two is something I see at School. The girls think that rape is not a big deal, even though it's clearly something that bothers them, because they think it's just sex. Bad sex, though, is not the same thing as rape, which I remind you is a FELONY.

And last week, the prosecutors filed to have the words "sex" and "intercourse" banned as well. How can this happen? Why are we living in a world where rape is not a big deal? Why do so many men hate women?

Supreme Court : CBS

The Supreme Court cites Jack Bauer. WTF?

And of course by "Supreme Court" I mean "Antonin Scalia," which to those of us in the know means "total douchebag" but to the rest of the world reads "The US Supreme Court." So, awesome, that.

"Jack Bauer saved Los Angeles. ... He saved hundreds of thousands of lives,"
Actually, friend, he didn't, because Los Angeles was never in danger. See, it's a TV show , and that means it's fiction.(FYI--Buffy never actually killed vampires, either.) I wonder what my girl Ruth did when she heard this. I can only imagine..."Wha---what the fuck? Seriously? Is he seriously referencing Jack freaking Bauer? How am I supposed to look these men in the eye at work? Are they trying to make me quit?" (Answer: probably. They hate the folks with logic, see. In case you were looking for a good example of the Supreme Court's total marriage to insanity vs. Ruth Nader Ginsberg's faultless logic* (and total badassedness), check out the decision banning dilation-and-extraction abortions, because she not only kicks some ass but you can also see Kennedy, who wrote the Opinion of the Court, look like a TOTAL DOUCHEBAG.

*For the record, Justice Stevens, Justice Souter, and Justice Breyer dissented with her; feel free to stick Justices Kennedy, Scalia, Alito, Thomas, and Roberts in your Total Misogynist Douchebag (and Crazy, Too!) drawer.

Colbert

It's kinda frustrating that Stephen Colbert says everything that I can say, except a little more articulately and much, much more funnily. (Also, the whole point of this is the HIGH-LARIOUS reference to Wellesley).
